Fascinated at just 8 years old by the rudiments of a marching band passing by, Willy Renner decided to learn drumming. After a year, playing the “snare drum” alone wasn't enough anymore – it had to be a full drum kit! At the Jugendmusikschule in St. Georgen, he learned to play drums under various teachers.
From 1987 to 1989, he perfected his playing while studying at the Swiss Jazz School in Bern, under Billy Brooks. He draws his musical experience from working with numerous bands across the widest range of styles, in countless live concerts as well as radio and TV productions.
While he shines as a soloist with brilliant technique, he is one of those rare drummers who can hold back and lock in a solid groove for the band. Alongside his performances, concerts and workshops, he has taught drums since 1990 at the Jugendmusikschule St. Georgen – Furtwangen.
